Down in N'awlins

I want to go back. It's kinda weird to be back in Aldersgate after spending the week in Louisiana. I definitely had a bunch of dreams where I had forgotten everything - like class times and whatnot - so I missed all my classes.
But y'all don't want to hear about that, so here's my account of what happened in NOLA: (ps, I'm writing these as I wrote them daily in a journal)

Friday 3/9/2012
We got off to a slightly rough start - no one knew where the keys to the van were O.o Then, once we found the keys, Christian wanted to move his car. So, an hour later than we wanted to be rolling out, we were leaving West Lafayette! It was a fun ride - we just kinda talked. Zach was a new aquaintence for us all, so we got to know him. He's a pretty cool guy :] Unfortunately, Shelly's grandfather passed away a few days ago, so she was unable to join us :[
At Bowling Green (our stop for the night), we met up with the other car - Dan, Sarah, Aaron and Kent left campus early to take a tour of Mammoth Cave so they got to the church quite a bit earlier than we did... We were all rather tired, so we had a quick devotion and went to sleep.

Saturday 3/10/2012
This morning was pretty interesting - Heather woke me up saying 'Carly, it's 6.08 and no one's awake - what should we do?' We were supposed to get up at 6 and I remembered that Corey had set an alarm as well, so I was wondering why it hadn't gone off. My watch said 6.08, but somehow my groggy brain made the connection that we were now on Central time - I just didn't set my watch back since we weould be springing forward that night. Heather and I had some good laughs about that :D An hour later, we all woke up and ate some breakfast and made lunch for the road. So, I ate some cereal and stuck three pieces of bread in a baggie. I dislike having to make sandwiches for lunch. Then we were on the road again - on to Birmingham. I slept through the rest of Kentucky and woke up in Tennessee. It was my first time in Alabama too, woot :] Once we made it to Birmingham, we played the highway game - we got turned around and some streets were closed off so we had to get back on the highway to get to the exit we missed. Once we were once more on the right path,we drove to the civil Rights Museum. We saw the 16th Street Baptist Church - the one that was firebombed and four girls lost their lives. The museum was really neat - I wish we could've had more time there. They had part of the Freedom Riders bus that was bombed - I'm not going to lie, that was a little creepy.

And it was a beautiful day! So nice after the colder weather we've been having in Indiana.

On the way from Birmingham to Louisiana, we were playing Phase 10 (a card game) and by the end we were all bored so it turned into a community game :]
Then we were in Louisiana! And then New Orleans! I was so excited :D
Once we got to the church, we met up with the Heart of Africa folks that are going to be working with us for the week. A former Wesley intern (allong with another Wesley alum) now works with them in Dallas. They're a pretty cool group, this is going to be a fun week :]

Sunday 3/11/2012
This morning, we led the church service. Everyone was in the choir, that was fun :] , and Christian Kakez-A-Kapend (the former Wesley intern that now works with Heart of Africa) gave a sermon on not letting the bad things in your life detract from the good things. It was realy good. We ate with the church congregation and then got to play on the playground as we waited to go exploring :]

Liz and Stephanie were enjoying siding down in various ways (like backwards, on their backs, in the fetal position, etc.). up on top is Jason and Sarah, then Zach is the one in the bright green shirt and Aaron is right next to him. I'm in purple and Kent is standing next to me. Liz, of course, is on the slide :D

We took these street cars along St Charles Street to Canal Street. They were fun :]





When we got off the street cars and walked along Bourbon Street. That was an experience... There were so many bars and smokers O.o And there were a ton of people wearing University of Kentuky stuff - I think there was a SEC thing going on.
And then we made it to Café du Monde! Heather and I were so excited :D

The beignets were so good too! I'm pretty sure that my lifespan shortened by about three years after eating those, but it was so worth it :]






We went to the takeaway line and got our beignets, then Kent and I went to a store across the street because I wanted a Saints shirt and he wanted a shotglass. When we got back to the cafe, our group had evaporated. Another group appeared, and we went to the riverside with Glen quickly before everyone had to reconvene. It was so nice there, I wish we could've had more time.
Since Kent and I got separated from the group, we didn't eat our beignets. Therefore, we got to eat them on the street car :D Back at the area where the cars were parked, we split up to get some food. Most of the group went to Camilla's - apparently a diner-type place. Liz, Matt, Zach, Aaron, Lindsey (Junk, another former Wesley intern that now lives in New Orleans) and I went across the street to get some pizza insted. Aaron had been wanting to try alligator ever since we entered Louisiana, and he found a pizza that had alligator sausage on it :]
On the ride home, I had an interesting conversation with Christian Klayhpen (at least I think that's how his last name is spelled...). He's one of the Heart of Africa guys - and he is from Liberia. He's studying pharmacy and wants to go back to Liberia to help there. Apparently, when you go to get fingerprinted to leave the country, they tell you when you are leaving, like three months, two weeks, whatever they say. Well, when he went with his sister, they said 'You're leaving tomorrow, pack your bags.' He didn't get to say good bye to his dad until he called from New York. That was wild.

Monday 3/12/2012
This morning, we got started. After morning devo and singing, we spit off into work groups. I was on the drywall team with Kent and Aaron. And when I say we were on the drywall team, I mean that Aaron and I spent three hours fighting with one piece that just wouldn't fit. We definitely signed our names on the inside once we got it - we were bloody proud. Some of he lovely ladies of the church are making us lunches this week - today was gumbo. I was so excited! Kent and I both had three bowls - we agreed that we wouldn't be able to move afterwards but it was totally worth it :]
After lunch, we took a bit of a siesta (and that turned into a routine :] ) so after that it was time to screw the drywall pieces into the ceiling. We got them in and started covering the seams with drywall tape and mud. There was putty everywhere O.o And Kent, Sarah B and I stayed behind to finish up filling some holes in walls - we wanted to know what we would get for working overtime :]
Some of the Heart of Africa girls made a traditional African dinner for everyone - okra stew. It was good too. We invited some of the ladies of the church to join us for dinner, and a few of them did. I sat near them and talked about the city, that was cool.

Tuesday 3/13/2012
It's so nice that the putty didn't dry overnight, otherwise we would've been able to continue our drywall work this morning...
Since we weren't able to sand, we went on to other jobs. I was still working with the putty and filling in (or covering up) holes in walls.

Zach had this hat that he was wearing until he found a yellow hard hat. I stole his hat (which wasn't actually his and wound up being Kent's) and wore it all week - it was great, it worked quite well as a hairband.









Today's lunch was red beans and rice - yum! I love Louisiana food :D
After lunch, it started downpouring outside. So, what do we do? Run outside of course! That was fun, we were all wet :] And some people were asleep and missed it all - we informed them of what they missed as we gathered for the lunch devo :]
The putty still wasn't dry when we went back, so I continued with the other jobs. One of which was washing windows with Corey. That kid is such a character - he's pretty fun to hang with :] (of course, I say kid and he's actually older than me). We both take Spanish classes, so we decided to practice.
We ate leftovers for dinner and then after the devo a group of us played an intense round of Egyptian Rat Screw (odd name for a card game, no?). At the end, it was me, Kent and Zach still going - that was intense. We all had to get outside for a bit afterwards :]
Then it was a game of spoons - Blessing and I bruised up each other's hands going for one spoon. That was fun. That night when Liz and I went to sleep, she set her alarm. Her phone tells you how long you have until it goes off. Eight hours of sleep? I accept!

Wednesday 3/14/2012
Happy Pi Day :D
We were able to sand the putty this morning! Once we finished that, my next project was organising the supplies. I like the green duct tape that we used to label the Wesley supplies :]
After lunch, I worked with the painting crew. I was going to be taping, so I grabbed a roll of painter's tape. Then I found another roll that was closer to being out, so I grabbed that and stuck it around my wrist too. I was starting a collection :D Once I finished painting, I started detail painting. Glen was working in the same area, he said that we were the Transcontinental Railroad :D Which led to a lengthy conversation about what the name is of the place where the Golden Spike was driven in and how the California team only made it to Utah but the Eastern team did have a jump on them so it was impressive that they made it that far. It was pretty fun :] The fire alarm wound up being our Promontory Point and the California team (me) ran out of paint there.
I helped Liz make pasta for dinner - two vegetarians were making the dinner so there was no meat, for once :D As I showered after dinner, I thought about my lack of phone (it died on Saturday) and interwebs (no wireless) for the week. It's been kinda nice. I mean, I'd enjoy being able to talk with friends, but instead I'm making new ones :]
It's nice that I take notes everyday - it helps with journalling and when other people don't remember what happened on a certain day :] Kent, Dan and I did a bit of group journalling while another group was playing Settlers of Catan. That seems like an interesting game, from what I saw.

Thursday 3/15/2012
I had quite the odd dream last night - it involved living about three blocks from Disneyland in a five-person apartment with Zach, Aaron and two others that were good friends of ours in the dream but I don't know them now. Yeah, it was weird.
I got up to help Glen make french toast this morning, and I may or may not have had a few troubles with the cinnamon...
We only worked a half day today, and the painting crew got the kitchen covered in paint - go team! (yesterday was primer). After lunch, we went on a not-so-touristy tour of New Orleans - we saw the church that housed three area congregations after Katrina, then we went to the Lower Nineth Ward.

 Looking at the old levee right next to the new one, it's weird to think that they thought that would last. But it obviously did for however long until a barge crashed into it.










For reference, Glen (the man in the blue shirt) is about 6'6" tall.

After the Lower Nineth Ward, we went over to the pastor's house for dinner. They made fish, so I enjoyed the rice and watching people attempt to eat the eyes ( XP ). We had a singing devotion and enjoyed hanging with each other for our last night.

Friday 3/16/2012
Heart of Africa tended to get up late for breakfast at 7.30, so Christian Kakez-A-Kapend didn't tell them that they would be getting up at 6.15 this morning until last night :] Liz and I were in the same room as Blessing and Baby D, so we got up pretty early with them. Heart of Africa left for Dallas after breakfast and devotion, we were all sad :[
But we still had some work to finish, so we got to it. I worked with Aaron to clear the brush pile from when they cut down a tree and it looked like we both got into a fight with a small animal - there were scratches up our arms.

Aaron found a snail and picked it up, asking what we should name him. I said Stanley, and so he became Stanley the Snail. We had to set him free, but we made sure it was a place where he'd be safe. :]





After lunch, we showered and headed out. We stopped to enjoy the afternoon in Audubon Park and got together a quick game of Ultimate Frisbee - what else would we do in a large field on a Wesley trip? ;D
We had Po Boys for dinner, then some people stayed in the resturaunt to watch the first half of the Purdue game and some of us went to walk around Magazine Street. We wanted shirts (especially after the Ultimate game) and found a store. Zach and I wound up getting the same shirt - it's a cartoon smiling beignet holding coffee and says 'Beign-Yay!' :D I enjoy it :]
On the way out of town, we had the GameCast up on two different phones, and when we stopped for gas the game was getting close and whichever phone updated first was the one we looked at. It was crazy! But they did win.
This whole week we've been joking about asking for consent for things like sleeping on shoulders, touching hair, etc. So, I asked Kent and he said that I could sleep against his shoulder - he was sleeping against the window - and we slept until we got to Tuscaloosa, our stop for the night.

Saturday 3/17/2012
Today I woke Heather up saying 'Heather, it's 7.08, what should we do?' and she laughed :]
We planned out tomorrow's Wesley service in the van - like the music and devotional thoughts and whatnot, then Sarah slept on my shoulder as I listened to some Celtic music :]
At lunch, we split off to various fast food resturaunts and threw the frisbee as we waited for everyone to gather once more (like I said, what else on a Wesley trip? :] ).
I was driving Dan's car behind the van when suddenly the flashers go on and we pulled off to the rest stop we were about to pass. Apparently there had been an accident up ahead that was stopping traffic and so we got to get out and, guess what we did, throw the frisbee! It was nice to be able to wait out of the van.
We dropped off Jason in Indy (my first time in the actual city) and then it was back to Purdue.
When I got back to Aldersgate, Catherine and I talked for a bit - apparently the robotics team that she and Seth helped with had a good competition over the weekend.

On Sunday I got up at about up at 9.30 and remembered that I need milk, so it was off to Walmart! At 10.30 on the morning after St Patrick's day - there weren't many other people out and about at that time :]
We (the crew from the New Orleans trip) did the church service at Wesley, so that was fun. We sang some of the African songs that we sang down there :]
I was going to spend the evening, but I decided that could wait because I wanted to go to the Wesley Ultimate recreation. I missed playing, I'm definitely getting back into this. Partway through our second game, the lights went out. We were confused, but just assumed that Purdue didn't want to pay for the lights when Aaron joined and said that the power was out in the res halls. It was a huge blackout - even people like Liz who live north of campus had no power, and the bars on the south side of State lost it as well. Aldersgate still had power (Kyle and I determined while driving home that Grant Street was the line of the outage), so we had a party of people that wanted to watch the basketball game (we were playing Kansas) but couldn't at home. It was a crowd, and it was such a good game until the last four minutes :[
Monday I had to get up for class O.o However, it was kinda fun because in Com we watched some of those as seen on tv commercials - I love how people are in black and white and completely incompetent unless you have this spiffy product :]
It was so beautiful outside! I sat outside and read instead of sitting in the basement of Beering like I normally do, and of course I got a little sunburned O.o Welcome to Spring!
I had chapter after orchestra, and I think I actually didn't do too badly on the quiz considering how little studying I did in NOLA.
I worked on transferring my journaling from my iPod to my journal while I did laundry after the new lesson, and that's why this entry is so late - I wanted to get that finished before I posted this.
Today I had another terrible CS lab O.o My TA said that he did the kind of things that we were doing in a class that was about three levels more advanced than the one we are in, that made us feel great...
We had an exec meeting at 2.30, then I went back to Aldersgate to listen to some Jimmy B and clean out my room - put away the laundry and things from the trip and switch out the long sleeved shirts into the trunk. I felt rather productive :D
We had our full COM meeting at 7, and then I came back to write this post. And now it's late and I want to get up to run tomorrow before classes. I've got a rather busy week ahead of me, hopefully this weekend I can actually work on getting ahead for next week.

Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day!

I've got a wonderful feeling everything's going my way! :] I had this stuck in my head at one point this week, it was odd because I've never sctually seen Oklahoma or heard that song in its entirety.
Ok, I want to get this posted before I leave so it's going to be a modified version of how I take my notes during the week of what happened. (That's what I do so I can remember what happened on Monday when I'm writing this post on the following Sunday :] )
Monday:
In Stat, my professor said that 'we learn simplified gambling in class. don't try this at home. or, try it at home but not anywhere else.' I enjoyed that one :]
After orchestra, I watched the ending of Braveheart with Kyle, Seth and Jake (Catherine joined us as well). I want to go back to scotland...
Tuesday:
The CS lab was... meh? It wasn't too bad, but still annoying enough that we didn't really know what was going on.
And then I got home to have yet another bloody nose. My dad actually sent me an email recommending getting a nasal spray that day, so nice timing, Dad ;]
Obviously my notes aren't quite enough, this is what I have down next:

And I can't remember what I'm supposed to say. Did I have lunch with someone? Or was it something particularly interesting? No idea.
I had to write a Spanish video review, so I didn't go to the Wesley Tuesday evening stuff. I did get a thing to sigh, that had to be turned in by noon the next day. I though that was going to be fine, then I saw that I wasn't 21 so my parents had to sign too... To the scanner! And to the phone to warn them :] I wound up having a great chat with my mom, so that worked out :]
Wednesday:
I got up and out early so I could turn that form in - I wouldn't have any other time before noon.
It was such a nice day! I was wearing a nice sweater and light jacket. If it wasn't so windy, it would've felt like late spring/early summer.
I needed a microwave for lunch (the second half of a Chipotle burrito - thanks mom :D ) so I ate in the basement of Beering  and then read for a bit outside. Yeah, it was a little breezy...
It was apparently red sweater day at Wesley - me, Heather and Liz all had red sweaters on :] Mine even matched my hair :D
Heather and I worked on our CS project for our break - we were done on Wednesday (not Friday at 5)! It was rather exciting :]
Wednesdays tend to be annoyingly busy for me, so I managed to make it all the way to Elliott before realising - bloody hell, all the music's in my room... So that was fun.
When I got back to A-gate, I went to finish my project and realised that a piece of the code didn't work properly. To Seth! I'm so glad he's in the house. We got it working and I updated Heather :]
Kyle's girlfriend Ahslee arrived sometime during the day. Kyle made a few introductions, and it went something like this:
Kyle: That's Andrew, Payton, Seth, and.... um... oh yeah, Carly.
Me: What the heck??
It was pretty entertaining :]
Thursday:
Oh what a beautiful day... or not. It was rather narsty when I left, all rainy.
After my proof class, I and another BIT, Matt, who's in the same class went to get our membership boards - the things we have to get everyone to sign. We get to sand them down and paint them, so I got started on that. There was sawdust everywhere :]
I had to get some provisions for the mission trip, so I went to Target. And couldn't find camping stuffs or WD-40 for the longest time...
We had our house dinner, and after I was talking with Ashlee and Catherine. That was pretty cool, Kyle occasionally came down to see what we were doing and Catherine and I said that we kidnapped Ashlee, the 2 girls of the house wanted a visitor :D
Friday:
This morning I gave a presentation in Spanish about San Fermín - the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. Then Com was cancelled, so I got to go home and work on things. This is what (exactly) I had on my list for the day:
     -pack
     -laundry
     -dishes
     -watch Hugo (free redbox rental - it was a very cute movie :] )
     -stat homework
     -bloody effing hell
I'm so good at planning ahead...
I did manage to get my big bags packed up and to Wesley, so after Stat I went to Red Mango with Jacob :D It was a nice little break in the middle of my day. And evidently a while ago he traded his firstborn son to his father for something, and he didn't even remember what it was anymore! I got a kick out of that :]
And now I really need to go - I need to finish up my packing (like camera, notebook, you know, unimportant things like that) and then it's go time!
Sorry for the rather less extensive post than normal, I'll have a better one for y'all when I get back from New Orleans.

The Indiana weather machine seems to be malfunctioning...

Another busy week. Hooray for taking 18 credits O.o
Monday I finished Shadows in Flight - the latest book in the Ender's Shadow series. I love Bean, he's my favorite character and he's the main character of the Shadow series. And I knew it was going to happen, but I was still sad when he died. It was really well written, though, so that made me happy.
And then I went to Probability and my friend asked 'So, are you ready for the quiz?' My first thought was 'bloody effing hell...' Yeah, I'd completely forgotten about it, so that was fun.
Then I got back to A-gate and saw that I had a card from Aunt Kelly! The front said 'Some money for the poor college student...' and I laughed - yup, that's me! :D Thanks, Aunt Doley :]
After orchestra , I decided that I was going to dye my hair - I had a box that I hadn't had time to use yet, so now I have red in my hair again :]
Tuesday I woke up obnoxiously tired. Thankfully, the lab wasn't too bad, we were able to get it done. Then I had exec and dinner with my whole Psi family :D (At least all of us that are still on campus.) I love my Psi familty - we're a fun group to hang with. There's my family from my facebook profile picture, as well as my grandbig - Lauren's (Larn's) big - Jason. It was funny - Larn dropped off Brent first after dinner. As he got out, we all said good bye.

The Walkabout committee had a meeting where we decided to get thinking about designs and what we're going to do for the actual Walkabout - which is like a clue trail that we make for the actives.
As I was doing homework, I had some tea and put in the recording of Beauty and the Beast from senior year. I miss pit :[ But goodness, did I not sit up straight or use any bow?? Watching me play was painful.
And, of course, what is an evening for me without a bloody nose? I went to scratch my nose and swore rather loudly. They aren't all very bad (like sometimes one kleenex will do the job and it's done in about 2 min), but it's still getting real old real fast.
Wednesday I planned on getting up at 6.30, so I was actually got up at 6.50 - yay homework. However, it was a beautiful day! I think it was 65 ish degrees and I wore a nice shirt and jeans - no jacket. It was awesome :]
And I lovve orchestra and al, but Kimberly and I were rather glad that we didn't have orchestra that night. Our Wednesdays kinda suck.
And this particular Wednesday would've been even worse because of the speech I had to give in COM. So I timed myself in the morning and I was right at 6 minutes, so I cut out a sub-point (not a major detail). Then I didn't eat breakfast, probably a good thing since I felt like I was going to hurl before I actually got up to speak. And when I did speak, I wound up concluding at the 4 minute mark - what happened to the extra 2 I had?? I hate public speaking.
And it was no longer Wednesday - it turned into Wind's day! It's kinda funny, sometimes I kinda forget that I have red in my hair (not necessarily forget, I just don't think about it), then the wind blows a strand into my face and I'm like 'Ohmygod, red!' :] Mariah laughed at me for some reason when I told her... ;]
After CS, I got to relax and have a dinner of champions - peanut butter and pizza pockets :D Yay college :]
I watched the Star Trek pilot and was rather confused, so I wanted to watch the next episode but I had a headache and a test the next day, so I decided to be a good student.
It's alway fun to wake up and think 'Bugger, I thought I was tired yesterday...' Thursday I had my MA 301 midterm. It wasn't too bad, and then I got to go to lunch at Noodles & Co. with my Big and Grandbig :D Sometime maybe I'll get a picture of the three of us so y'all can see Jason.
Our house dinner was that night too, and then I had homework. And I think my nose might be trying to kill me via blood loss. Seven in two weeks (I think... I've lost count), yeah, like I said, real old real fast.
Friday was quite the interesting day of weather. Walking to Spanish, it was chilly and overcast. Spanish to the Math library and then the library to COM it was sprinkling a bit, not too bad. After COM, I walked out to see that it had rained heavily and hailed, and was still raining a bit. I had to meet someone in Marriott Hall, so I sat at a table next to the window rather than my normal spot in the basement of Beering. So I got to see when it was torrentially downpouring and hailing. That was nice to watch from inside :]
When it let up a bit, I went to class. And after that, it was a beautiful day. It remained that way through when I walked to A-gate to pack up for the weekend retreat and then back to my CS lecture. And then after CS, it was overcast and crazy windy again. Then once we got to the monestary, it was snowing. Like I said, the weather machine seems to be having a minor freak out...
We met at Wesley for the retreat, and it's a good thing I got there early since I forgot my pillow and sleeping bag. Mariah needed cash too, so we made a run back to get various provisions.
And we were off! When we got there, it was dark and the guest house was warm :] It was a cute little house too, complete with a spiral staircase. I don't like walking up and down spiral stairs, so I claimed an air matress on the ground downstairs. I was pretty deflated too, so that was nice - I like soft beds.
And it's a good thing I can fall asleep with lights on and people talking since I went to sleep in the living room while people were still talking.
Saturday morning we had communion with the monks. It was an Episcopalian monestary, so we got wine with communion (it was good wine too :] ). We normally have grape juice that we've dipped the bread into, so actually doing the passing of the chalice was interesting.
We had breakfast after communion and then a talk about the theme of the weekend - Imago Dei, made in the image of God. It was an interesting talk.
Some people went to spent a few hours in Three Rivers, the city nearby. I elected to remain behind so Liz, JJ, Jake and I went to the library to get some work done.
The library was so cool! I was enjoying looking around and found the English/Scottish history section - that was bad news, I did have to get work done after all.
At 3.30 one of the monks came to talk to us about the monastic life - it was pretty interesting. They basically pray, read, meditate, and take care of the buildings and cats all day.
It was tea time after the talk, and then Vespers - an evening prayer time. After Vespers, they had a 30 min meditation period that I and a few others stayed for. That was really neat, to be able to just sit in dark and silence for a period.
Dinner that night was an alfredo pasta - so yummy :] And then we had another group talk, this time we got to share our stories. That was really neat, to be able to hear what brought people to where they are today.
Some of us were leaving at 6 on Sunday, so we were up and at 'em at 5.30 - though we still didn't leave till 6.30, yay Wesley time :]
Christian and I wound up together in the front bench of the van and he couldn't find a comfortable position to sleep in, so we wound up trading off sleeping across the bench - basically with our heads in the other's lap. It was relatively comfortable, and nice to be able to take a nap after the lack of sleep that we got over the weekend.
Mario requested that I play the violin solo thing (and bits of the viola part) from Kansas's Dust in the Wind with him on guitar at Wesley, so when I got home I looked up the song and music and practiced it. The solo is the part from 1.30-2.12 of this video, and then I played the straight notes at the end too. (But, no, I didn't have hair or a beard like that :] )
At about 1pm, I thought about how much I had to do and decided that it could all wait so instead I played Kingdom Hearts :] I only had about an hour, so it was't too bad at all.
Then it was time for practice and then service. Unfortunately, I had to rush out after service because the BITs had a dinner at Roy's (one of our advisors) house and I was driving people there.
The dinner was fun - they made casseroles that I couldn't eat (meat) but the corn, salad, and rolls were very yummy. We watched the ending of the women's basketball game - we're the Big Ten champions! After two overtimes - that was a little stressful... During the meal and then after for a bit we talked with Roy and his wife, Sarah. It was pretty neat to hear about their lives.
When I got back to A-gate, Kyle and Seth were getting ready to play Halo so I watched them. I've never seen the actual storyline of Halo before, so that was interesting to see.
And now it's Monday morning and I'm about ready to count down the hours till Spring Break. I won;t get much sleep, but I haven't been anyway so it's all good :]

So much to do, so little sleep...

That seems to be a theme for me this year...
Tuesday I had class and another CS lab. In he lab, we wrote a program in python, so it's a good thing we learned about it the next day... But we got it! And it worked! :D
During the exec meeting, we started going over and revising the bylaws. Yay bylaws...
And then it was time for homework. Like none other...
Wednesday was Ash Wednesday. I was going to give up sweets for Lent, but I need my motivation to do homework (like, if I do homework then I get to have a cookie!), so I decided that I'm giving up candy - basically, if it's mass produced then none for me for 40 days.
I had class and a break at Wesley like normal. And today I got to talk about New Orleans with Heather - we're both going and we've decided that we're going to Cafe du Monde for begniets, whether the rest of the group wants to or not ;]
Then I had my CS lecture - oh, look, python O.o
And I love orchestra, but I have to say that not having orchestra meant that I actually had time that evening :D It was so exciting!
Instead of orchestra, some orchestra people went out to dinner at Fiesta :] That was really fun, we're an interesting group ;D
Then came the conundrum - do I stay up to work and wake up at normal time tomorrow, or go to sleep now and get up earlier?
It didn't really help either way - Thursday morning I woke up obnoxiously tired. I still had class, though. However, we got out early so that meant I had more time to work on the project and paper that were due the next day O.o This call for some tea! (Plus hopefully it'll help my sudden back pain.)
At noon, I went to get some chili for lunch with my big and grandbig, Lauren and Jason. That was fun, we had some good conversations - I love my Psi family :D
On the way home I stopped by the library - I love the Ender's Shadow series and a new book came out recently. I was excited - I haven't read those books in a while and they're some of my favorites. But then I got home again and I actually had to work...
During a slight break, I found that I still had some Reese's in my desk from my parents when they came down for my birthday last weekend. I should've eaten them on Tuesday but I'd forgotten about them >.<
I wrote for most of the time I had before we had the family dinner. I had a baked spud - it was yummy :D
After dinner we had a BIT class meeting - we needed to practice Fighting Varsity for Sunday.
It was a fun meeting - it went something like 'Here's the fighting varsity! That wears... Hey guys, let's have a BIT class trip to the Dunes!' ;D
I was up till about 2 doing homework, and somewhere around 12.15 I had my 4th bloody nose in 4 days - I'd thought they were done seeing as how the day before nothing happened. Methinks I need a humidifier, but that I'd need to have the money for one, as well as have the time to go get one...
Staying up till 2 meant that I woke up rather tired on Friday. It was nice, though, I didn't have Stat (we had an evening exam - professors are required to cancel one class period for each evening exam). That meant I got to eat lunch and finish my Com paper at Wesley during that time :]
Heather and I wanted to work on our CS project together, and we got Seth (a CS major) to help us out :D We started at 2.30 and worked till 5.10, when we decided that it would take us 10 min to walk to class anyway so we might as well just skip it :]
I had anticipated staying up till midnight working on the paper and project, so it was nice to be done at 5 :] I got to eat pizza and watch NCIS with Seth and Kyle.
Seth rented Captain America from redbox, so we watched it that night. I wanted to see it, so I was excited.
I like Chris Evans, so I was sure that I was going to enjoy the movie. He started off as a pretty scrawny guy, but then this happens:

My jaw dropped and I said 'Ooh, I like this movie a lot more now...' :D
Payton and Seth laughed at me, I'm not sure why...
:P









It was only 10, but I was ready to go to sleep. So of course, Seth, Kyle and I stay up and talk for another 2 hours... Oh well, I didn't have anything to do early Saturday :]
When I woke up (at about 9, like usual) I did some laundry and played Kingdom Hearts :D I beat my game in the first one, then started a new game in the second.
Two hours and 43 min later, I got to the point where Sora finally changes his clothes (out of a Micky-esque outfit that I don't like so much) and then another hour later I stopped. It only took me 4 hours to get it started O.o I knew that it was going to take a while - I remember that from before - but I'd forgotten just how long. You can skip the cutscenes in the second game, but it's been long enough that I wanted to watch it all.
Once I finally got that started up, I had errands to run. I badly needed groceries, and I really wanted a humidifier (the bloody noses were getting annoying). I got a Walmart giftcard from my parents for my birthday, so I also got Tangled while I was out :D I love that movie :]
When I got back, Seth had taken over the TV and was playing Skyrim so I watched him and studied for the Psi quiz on Sunday.
Jacob and I planned to go to The Vow (take 2) on Saturday evening, so we got there rather early to make sure we'd get tickets this time and went to watch the ice skaters in the rink and then to Starbucks to kill time. It was fun :]
Goodness, I enjoyed the movie, but it was so sad in the middle...
But it was fun to hang with him again :]
When I got back home, I tried to do homework (I swear!) but I was so obnoxiously tired that I decided to call it a night.
This morning, the BIT class had brunch together :] We're a fun group :D
And I'm so glad i'm not in GABS - the women's basketball pep band - because they had a game at noon and then we had Psi stuff all evening.
So instead of the game, I got to watch Tangled with seth (he's never seen it!) and do some homework. I also got to talk with my mom :D
Then it was time for our Brotherhood Bonding Experience. We have to get all of the active's signatures on a board, so today we walked around campus to find out what we needed to do to get their signatures. By the time we finished, most everyone was at Five Guys getting dinner before chapter. I was going to go, but I wanted to get my car home and since I was going home, I figured I'd just have a sandwich at home rather than going out an spending money.
This week, chapter and the lesson didn't take nearly as long as they did last week - we were done at 8.45 - which was awesome because I still had Spanish homework to do. I volunteered to compile all the lists of requirements together for everyone, so I also did that.
And now I have class once more tomorrow - so I need to sleep.

These have been some hectic weeks.
Monday I turned 20 :D And at some point during the morning, I had to write the date. I got the 2 and 13 down easily enough, but then I took a few seconds since I almost immeditely wrote 1992 - that's not the year...
It was a pretty relaxed day - I just went to class and read all day :D After my troubles with the year in the morning, I was writing the date on my statistics notes and thought 'what's the date today?' Then I looked at my watch - which has the date on it - and laughed at myself...
After Stat, I went and read in Wesley for a bit and my friend John met me there. He got me Dragonfly in Amber for my birthday :D
Orchestra was fun, my friend Jacob gave me a Yoda card :D And then back at home Andrew offered me a birthday cinnamon roll - that was yummy. I love my friends :]
I decided that I wanted to watch a movie to finish off my day, so I watched The Lion King :D
All in all, it was quite a good birthday :]
Though it really shouldn't've been. I had a lot to do for the week, so Tuesday was when I started stressing.
Thankfully, the CS lab wasn't too bad. In between that and exec, the deposit forthe New Orleans trip was due so I went to pay that. I'm so excited! :D
As we were sitting around and talking, Lisa Jones and I were having fun with Disney Princess valentines and discussing how we didn't have time for boys. Jake and Mario insisted that if some great guy came along we'd make time - and we agreed - but he hasn't shown himself yet to either of us so for the time being we're too busy :] And Mario, while wishing me a happy belated birthday, asked why I didn't like people singing to me, like in a general context. I corrected him - if someone were to serenade me I'd be very happy (hint to that unknown guy that I'm going to make time for once he shows up ;] ) - I just don't like it when people sing happy birthday to me. Jake asked if I had a traumatic experience or something to give a reason for my dislike. I said that one birthday when people started singing I started crying, so that was a good enough reason for them :]
When I got home, there was a package waiting for me and I made a Valentine's Day playlist - Disney love songs are the best! :D
So a few days ago I got this email from the USPS that apparently my mom sent me something. My initial thought was - 'Yay!!' Then, 'she does remember that she's going to come see me in a week, right?' :D I guessed that it was most likely the Mary Kay stuff I'd ordered. Then, Tuesday when I opened it I saw Creative Memories papers and a gift bag, so I was slightly confused. I picked up the papers and saw a note fall - it's a Valentine's Day care package!! Yay! And perfectly on time too :D It was complete with: Darth Vader pez dispenser, soup bowl and plate, lemon cake balls (yum!) and papers for my magnetic thing on my wall. I love my family! :D I kept the bag with 4 cake balls and put the one with 9 in the common room - that's the nice thing about living in a house with 6 guys :D And everyone that had one of them really enjoyed them.
I decided against going to Wesley for the evening because I needed to get some homework done.
On Wednesday I had an extra half hour to get ready in the morning - my Spanish oral interview was at 10 rather than the normal class start time of 9.30 - and it felt like I had so much extra time! It was pretty nice.
Unfortunately, my tattoo was itching like a fiend, so I had to ignore that somehow.
Classes were... well, classes. And homework was... well, homework. Like I said, Monday shouldn't've been the day that it was...
Thursday I had a class and then went to Wesley rather than Aldersgate so that I would study rather than sleep for a day and a half in my room. As it was, I still took a nap on the floor of the conference room (yes, I was that tired).
And even after my nap, my thought process was something along the lines of: I should study formy midterm tonight, but ooh Lisa's looking at Hunger Games stuff and ThinkGeek :D My Star Wars keychain on my keys broke, so I was looking to see if they had any good ones. They have a LED lightsaber keychain that was nifty but unfortunately out of stock.
After my probability exam (which I bombed, by the way, but so did most of the rest of the class), I worked on my annotated bibliography for my com class and then had some fun on ancestry.com. The 1930's US Census was free to access this weekend and I actually found some people on it - I found the report of my Grandma's family in North Dakota :D
As I was playing with that, I was listening to celtic music. I like bagpipes :D And I can sleep in tomorrow! I don't have Spanish since my oral interview was on Wednesday.
Since I didn't have Spanish, my classes on Friday didn't start until 11.30 :D
After my 2 classes, I went to Wesley - Steph was back from Texas :] It was great to see her again.
After CS, I decided that I was going to let myself play Kingdom Hearts and not think about all I had to do that weekend and how little time I had to do it. It was quite nice - I love those games :D
Saturday we had our orchestra rehearsal. Andy told us to be there at 8.40 so I picked up Julia and one of my fellow BITs, Geoffrey, and we got there at about 8.35 - I live under the 'if you're on time, you're late' mentality, so I tend to be really early.
However, out concertmaster evidently woke up at 8.40 so he and the people he had to drive were all late. I felt really bad for all of them - Andy told them to leave the rehearsal and that meant they couldn't play in the concert.
After rehearsal, I had just enough time to do nothing before my mom and dad got here :D It was awesome to see them again, I love my family :] They gave me a teapot and I really want to use it, but I can't remember where I put the rest of my tea leaves so I can't have my English Breakfast tea from my fun new teapot yet...
That evening, Jacob and I had planned to go out and see the Vow. Back over winter break, Kristin and I were watching trailers for movies coming out this year and we saw a trailer for The Vow - we decided that we were going to get boyfriends to take us to see that movie :] That night, I got a message from Jacob saying that if I didn't have a boyfriend, he'd go see it with me - he wanted to see it too. It evolved into dinner, a dance at his church and then the movie.
So, Saturday night we went to Olive House - a Mediterranean resturaunt - and felt rather overdressed, I in my red homecoming dress and he in a shirt and tie. Oh well, it was fun :] And yummy :D
At the dance, we were mostly hanging with another girl from orchestra and having fun dancing. He kinda knows how to swing dance, so we had fun with that :]
And then we went to the movie, which was sold out :[ The next showing was midnight, so we decided to reschedule. Instead, he decided that I needed to watch Jurassic Park. And we weren't overdressed at all anymore :D
Unfortunately, it wasn't until I remembered that my mom had asked me to take a picture. Heh, oops, story of my life.
Sunday morning was time for more Kingdom Hearts :D Then I had my orchestra concert, and I stayed for the Philharmonic concert so I didn't get to go to Wesley.
I did have chapter, though. Plus there was a BIT quiz and lesson afterwards. Evidently Panera's international now - they've expanded to Toronto. Jason said that KKPsi should become international now too - if Panera can do it so can we :D
Unfortunately, it was a long lesson so it was 10 when we finished. And I had homework due today, so I didn't get much sleep last night.
You know your week is going to be a long one when it's already a bad week and it's only Monday.
Today I had class and then went straight home to study for my CS midterm.
At some point while I was in my room, I thought to myself 'why does my nose feel so weird?' I reached up to scratch it, then looked down and saw the blood on my hand. 'Oh, maybe because there's blood coming out of it, I guess that would be a good reason...' O.o
Orchestra was shorter today - since our concert was yesterday, and then the exam was as bad as I thought it would be so that was nice.
I was watching Seth play Skyrim and then Family Guy with Kyle, and now it's midnight and I haven't been getting enough sleep lately as it is. Like I said - it's going to be a long week...

My last days of being a teenager...

It's weird to think that I turn 20 tomorrow...
So on Monday I mostly just went to class and did homework. I did make my appointment to get my tattoo :D I was super excited :]
Tuesday was more class, and another bloody lab where we had no idea what was going on O.o However, the email that my professor sent out at 4.15 helped >.<
We had our exec meeting and I had to leave so I could have an interview at CD Land. I hope it works out, it would be nice to have moneys...
After the interview, I went to Panera - I had a thing for a free smoothie so I got a mango smoothie and chocolate chip cookie. It was rather delicious :D
I was out, so I went ahead and made a trip to Walmart - Lady and the Tramp came out so I got that. I also wanted to get some hydrogen peroxide, only I totally forgot. That's what lists are for, after all, to not look at them while you have them in the bloody store O.o
Unfortunately, that night was the last night of the FFF study :[ We talked about Star Trek and Star Wars though, so that was good :D

I had to go get some fragrance free soap and lotion for it, then it was time for CS recitation O.o So I wrote a story :D
For our house dinner, Andrew had a bunch of stuffs to make sandwiches. I actually had to leave early because I was going out to dinner with big and grandbig. That was really fun - we had a nice Skyrim conversation :D We were talking for about an hour at the resturaunt - I like my Psi family :D
My Friday was also pretty great. I had class, chilled at Wesley and wrote more of my story in CS :D I also made my pesto and feta cheese pasta, yum!
Now, Julia had never seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail before. I decided to remedy that, so Friday evening we watched it :D She said that quite a few jokes now make more sense... :D
The Wesley Friday Fellowship was a Valentine's craft night. It was pretty fun :D I got a valentine from 'a camel with a rug and all your wildest dreams and statistics and books and Star Wars and sports and Harry Potter' (aka Liz :D ) We also watched Lady and the Tramp :]
We stayed up kinda late, which was unfortunate since I had to be up at 5.30 yesterday - we were meeting at Triple XXX at 6.45 to drive to Butler for KKΨ West Block. I had grits for breakfast, Jason Mlady, the person whose car I was riding in, said my southern roots were coming out :D I do say y'all... (which entertained Mike Sheehan, the other peron in Jason's car).
On the drive down, we talked about various fraternity things - apparently OSU's chapter is kinda... weird. I said 'well, OSU students are kinda weird so I guess that fits' :D They appreciated that one.
We got there kinda early because Jason had to be - he's a District officer.
Part of the scheduling was these one on one talks - between the District officers and individual chapters. I went with the group from Gamma Pi (my chapter) and we talked about the recruiting and interview process - my BIT class is 20 large - and it was interesting to hear from the other side of the process.
The workshop I could go to (the other one was dealing with stuff that you find out about after you're initiated) talked about apathy and how to help keep your chapter from having cliques and internal troubles.
We had a while for lunch - there's nothing really near Butler, it's in the middle of a residential neighbornood. I went to Applebee's with some of my brothers and it took an annoyingly long time to get our food. Half of us had to order to go - they had to be back for more of the one on one things. The rest of us got our food and wolfed it down so we could get back not too late - we were already 5 min after when we had to be back as we were piling into the car...
Next up we split up into groups to talk about Relationships, Education and Musicianship, and I was in the musicianship group. We had an interesting conversation about the various ways different chapters are promoting and working to improve. After everything was over, we hung out and watched most of Up while playing Uno :] And I may be voted off the island next week - I kinda made both Mike and Jay Rodriguez slightly angry... :]
We went to Steak n Shake on the way home and I had a heath shake - it was so yummy! I love Heath :]
After I got back to Aldersagte, I went over to Eric's place for a Halo party :D I really don't like first person shooters, so I just played a few games and watched others. Kyle and I played a team match against Eric and Amanda, and we won! I actually got 19 kills, so that was pretty awesome :D Kyle and I were there till 2 am, I was rather tired.
So I got to sleep in till 10.15 this morning :D That was pretty nice :]
Julia and I were signed up to make dinner for Wesley today, so we went shopping for the stuffs to make our spaghetti bar. We got most things set up with plenty of time, so Julia went up to listen to the sermon. I wanted a headcount so I went up to count and then decided to chill for a little since I had some time. Well, Erica was making announcements and she said 'we have a few birthdays...' so I said 'peace out' and fled - I don't like it when people sing Happy Birthday to me.
So I ran away and started making the spaghetti and garlic breadsticks and sautéeing (is that a word?) mushrooms. People seemed to like it - they complimented Julia and me.
Tonight was a COM meeting, and after the meeting Jake and Kyle sang to me, as I ran away. I debated making them walk home, but I was nice.
And now I have to finish my homework as Kyle, Seth and I watch Family Guy and Van Helsing. Block was great and I'm so glad I went, but it did take up quite a bit of my weekend... Eh, who needs sleep? ;]

Fifty Frenchmen can't be Wrong!

Yay for busy weeks...
Monday after I finished my last post I had orchestra and a badminton officers meeting. After the meeting I was in the common room and reading when Seth walked in with Real Steel - that Hugh Jackman movie about boxing robots. I was going to leave about halfway through, but I wound up staying till the end, which was like 1 in the morning. Oops.
Tuesday it was actually a pretty easy CS lab - it's nice to have a lab where we've actually learned it all before.
I didn't have much food, so I got a sandwich from the cafe in LAwson - Seth is in there a lot and said that their snadwiches were good, so I went ahead and tried it out. It was yummy, and it was the first time I haven't had to make my own lunch in quite a while so it was even better :D
Then it was time for the weekly exec meeting. Glen informed us that the Girl Scout cookies had arrived, we were all rather excited about that :] The annoying thing is I like Thin Mints frozen but I live on a floor with three guys so I don't really want to put them in the freezer...
The FFF group talked about The Matrix. It's a pretty interesting movie and raises a lot of quesions - like what is real? What is destiny? That kind of fun stuff.
I was rather tired, so I didn't stay for the devo and communion. Unfortunately, I also couldn't find my cookies so I wasn't able to take them home.
I did some homework, but eventually 'doing homework' turned into 'watching Beauty and the Beast' :D
Or at least part of it. I was about to pass out and I didn't really want to sleep with my laptop in my bed so I turned it off and went to sleep.
Wednesday I woke up and looked at my phone to see 7.53 - it's later than I normally wake up and I figured it was a good thing it wasn't a Monday or Wednesday since I'd only have 30 min to get ready.
Then I got to my desk and looked at my phone agian - this time it said 7.36. My number dyslexia strikes again...
I went to class and had a subdued lunch - I still needed to go grocery shopping.
I was really tired, so I took an hour nap at Wesley :] It was amazing.
As I was waiting to go into the CS lecture, I saw Julie- the badminton club president. It's a class of 200 people, so I seem to see new people every day :]
After orchestra that evening, I had to drop off things to people at badminton so I had a workout in between when I got to the TREC and when badminton started. Unfortunately, there were a number of other people so I had to use an elliptical. I'd forgotten how much I hate ellipticals - I can't use my full stride and so they throw me off about every 5..
When I got home, I took a (kinda long) shower :D And I take really hot showers, so by the end the water was pretty much scalding - I was rather pink when I got out :]
Then I got to watch the rest of Beauty and the Beast (after going through the songs during my shower). I realised that I (as Belle) am one of the few princesses that doesn't speak to animals. Then I thought more and said my firiends are a clock, candleabra, teapot, cup and wardrobe, so maybe I shouldn't talk... ;]
It's a good thing I have two alarms in the morning, because on Thursday I slept through the first...
Then I got up and went to my computer to see an email from my Aunt Cindy. It was about my Spring Break Mission Trip to New Orleans and she said that she was proud of me, and that my Grandpa Andy would  be proud of me for 'carrying on his tradition of helping others'. I never really knew my grandpa, so reading that made me happy :D
I was still tired that morning, so I made some hot chocolate to take with me to class :D And after class I had to return a book to the library so I also stopped to get a bagel from Einstein's Bagels. It was yummy :]
Then it was grocery time! I have food again! And 96 valentines later... it's pretty sweet to have friends :D Psi was doing a Valentine's Day thing like in grade school where we decorated an envelope and got valentines to put in everyone's. That alone was 55 of the valentines.
My CS recitation is still boring - we keep going over the material that I understand from lecture. Once we start getting to things I don't understand, maybe it'll be better...
Jake made a stir fry dinner for our house meething that night. It was very yummy :]
And then my night went to hell. I had homework to do, but then I rememered three other things I had to do for the next day and so I was up until 3 in the morning doing homweork that I either didn't understand, really didn't want to do, and/or couldn't do in a room of English-speaking people (my Spanish homework). That was rather less than enjoyable...
Because of that, I only got 4 hours of sleep and I kew that Friday was going to be rough.
I was about to pass out pretty much the entire time through Spanish. Then I got an adrenaline rush for COM - we had to give our 60 Second Science presentations and (in case you hadn't realised by now) I hate public speaking. So that was fun.
I ate my lunch, but I was still about to pass out again in Stat. I need to pay attention in that class, so I managed. During my break, I read at Wesley so that was nice - just sitting on a couch for my 2 hours.
After CS, I went home and sat down at my desk - my chair is too comfortable, I didn't want to get up again. I got to talk with my Mom and cousin Kristin though, so that was fun :]
I managed to get up because I wanted to go to the bonfire/hike at the Robyne's. There I realised that I'm almost not a teenager, I need to so some teenage rebellious things in this next week! So it's kinda nice that I was already planning on getting a tattoo :]
There was an option to have a sleepover at the Robyne's, but I was tired enough that I wanted to sleep in my own bed, and actually get some sleep that night, so I went home.
Saturday the BITs had a morning meeting (kinda last minute, but there were a good number of people there) and after we went to brunch at a dining court. There were two non-Res Hall people there (myself and one other girl) so they offered to swipe us in :]
I worked on some homework in between that and when I was going to meet Julia for the IU game.
Speaking of which, gag me with a spork. That was an ugly game. There were some really obnoxious IU fans right behind us, so I spent half the game plotting whether I could making convincing enough that I tripped and just elbow them in the balls. Julia was planning physical harm to them as well, but we decided to be nice...
Sunday was Tapout - we finally found out who our bigs are! And we got to meet the Tau Beta Sigma (TBS - the band sorority) sisters for the first time (for me anyway).
I got a big and a twin! And my twin has a little - apparently this doubled the family size.

We all went out to Hotbox Pizza after the ceremony, that was fun. Brent was saying something about Lauren leaving (she graduates in May) and she said that's why she got him a twin, so we wouldn't be alone after this semester :]
After Hotbox I did some homework before it was time to practice for Wesley band. I haven't played in a while, it was fun :]
Then it was time for the Superbowl! I watched the first half at Wesley - they have a big tv ;] However I wanted to go home before the game was over and I didn't really want to watch the halftime show, so I decided to drive home then.
It was a good game, too. I didn't really care for either team, so I appreciated the down-to-the-wire atmosphere. And there were some good commercials, not all that many but a good number.
My favorites: Matthew Broderick, Mr Sandman, The ending of the VW one (Darth Vader!), Bridgestone Football, M&Ms, Chevy Graduation, the Hyundai cheetah, and the Avengers. That movie looks like it's going to be so cool!
After the game, Kyle switched the tv to ET - so now I've seen the ending :] I haven't seen anything before that, but that's beside the point. And I was enjoying listening to the music - I played that music! :D (in the Halloween concert last semester)
And now it's once again Monday morning and I need to go to class.
